TeamSkú7pecen Intern Video
The work at Qwelmínte Secwépemc relies on the dedication and expertise of the leadership and technicians in the fields of natural resource management and governance. As Qwelmínte Secwépemc (QS) works towards self determination, the collective must ensure that it is preparing the next generation of yecwemínem (stewards/caretakers of the land), in a leadership or technical capacity. By using the Skú7pecen telling and Walking on Two Legs concept as guiding principles, current and future technicians within both the Indigenous and Western legs will come together as a collective, sharing values and principles to fill existing knowledge gaps. This knowledge sharing is at the core of the TeamSkú7pecen Model, a multi-level program that is currently focused on Junior entry level positions for university students to intern over the summer with Qwelmínte Secwépemc. We are introducing the interns to the work of Reconciliation and what it looks like to build and support government-to-government work, in a supported space that is grounded and founded in Secwépemc Law.
