Tsecwmíntlemt re Scwesét - Welcome to the Journey Ceremony
August 24, 2024
The Qwelmínte Secwépemc, a collective of eight Secwépemc communities committed to reconciliation and sustainable resource management, welcomes three new signatories to the Skú7pecen Journey Letter of Commitment (SJLoC): Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band, High Bar First Nation, and the Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship. This expansion reinforces a united effort between Secwépemc communities and the Province of British Columbia to uphold shared stewardship and meaningful collaboration.
Hunter Lampreau, Director of Skú7pecen’s Journey, expressed that this addition strengthens the collective’s commitment to reconciliation through ethical cooperation and mutual respect. The SJLoC provides a framework for protecting Secwepemcúl’ecw by integrating Secwépemc Law with provincial systems, fostering unity in governance and land management. This agreement reflects the power of collaboration in advancing sustainability, cultural preservation, and a shared future.
